Walk

Where the old house stood
on the river's left bank
I waited
Eyes don't betray me
not yet
Oh have some courage pal
life only comes around every
now and then
I drove over California's broken heart to be here
Sometimes things work out in your favor
you get lucky
The hot wind across the water brought a dusty calm
scenting the air with field and flower
Should I sit and write?
My head is too jumpy for that now
Oh hell, go knock on her door
Life is for the living
you have to go after your desires
I watched your silhouette notice me
A voice assured me
An uncomfortable calm inside
mirrors my own

Walk with me
down the path by the lake
I follow
The same hot wind that has
brought the scents of summer
now bends the rusted grass around her
I am older
She is beautiful
