Motorcycle on the Front Porch

F  C  G  A
F
park your motorcycle on the front porch
C
every now and then
G
and if the engine won't start
Am
pass it off to a friend

F
when your heart don’t ache
C
you' forget how to live
G
spend your days as if they mattered
Am
wedge your head  up in the clouds
F
if you’re not done flyin
C
then baby don't come down

E
bill talks to his turtles
C
never his kids
G
they won't let go
Am
of what they said he did

F
with a knife on her thigh
C
the pretty girl rolls past
G
drink her in while you can
Am
for you know it can't last

F
pick up a dented can
C
just so she won't get tossed
G
walk on until you smile
Am
because you're finally lost

F
when your heart don't ache
C
you' forget how to live
G
spend your days as if they mattered
Am
wedge your head  up in the clouds
F
if you're not done flyin
C
then baby don't come down

E
turn it off now and then
C
and go out to the dark
G
keep all the lights
Am
from drowning out the spark

F
don't forget to fall in love
C
every now and then
G
take a day or two off
Am
just to be with a friend

E
cut your jeans to the knee
C
go on in for a swim
G
try not to worry about it all
Am
cause to worry's a sin

F
when your heart don't ache
C
you' forget how to live
G
spend your days as if they mattered
Am
wedge your head  up in the clouds
F
if you're not done flyin
C
then baby don't come down

Soloist

A sanguine felt
        on blades cut long;
Inspire contemplation of
          rapturous song.

Keys be rent to do as much,
         through one man's
                lifted precious touch.

Though know him not
         nor ever will.

    Our time be shared,
           remembered still;

By those whose hearts
  are bared.

Naming

A name and we dare not compare
but rather time and place
who is one to you at due will be one to they

A cloud born of mist and sea
no moniker satisfies
this creature of the windy spree
a changeling wander on

define you
no
I dare not try
to box your person
categorize
rather can I know you
as I know the sky?
love you as the leaves fall and sleep
need you when the sky does weep
but never name you.

Capricious Cat

What can be
of some as that
silky thin capricious cat

No ball of yarn
or upholstery leg
for but a moment

not to chance a term
of more... time
but rather for all
to unwind

The Cats

A house of cats
will claw and scratch
and find your ankles

Asleep you may find
one or two
you lap and neck
inhabited

Acceptance comes at
last to some
and freely to this house

Welcome now though
aware and pleased
this house is full of cats.

Morning Beams

Held in sunlight's
soft embrace
a potency been crushed
to taste
nocturnal blush from
safe inside
in morning time finds
space to hide
be held amidst the
sunbeam's touch
when daylight hours
are thought as much.

Faeries

dancing faeries
upon the grass
inform me dear
your time when past
enchantments work
all done away

A Beast

fleeting footsteps down the path
in the dust

one sets prints in the ground
a time
another watching

fleeting steps on mountain walk
sure foot slow
gentle foot fall

tend your beast with gentle hand
for its your beast who knows this land

feed him well and rest him much
your beast is yours alone to touch

his back's of use
this be true
though greater still
as guide to you.

Quilting

moonlit pillow
embrace in night's fog
winds on skin
a bon nuit
of ours

dawn lights
share deeper sights
original sin
thoughts within
rested now
are back alive

now
on beams afresh

share moment
and share rest

Willie

Erasmus smiled at me
teeth gleaming
peppered brow salted with time
left here as my guard
little man with a gleaming set
so I met his glance
I kinded him
fed him
and Erasmus lay down beside his captive
and slept
his gleaming teeth slept too
eyes closed
warming my chest
head on my neck
"he's gonna bite you too," she said
"no he isn't"
Erasmus slept.
